 DataCast software is designed for delivering data files to subscribed remote stations with high speed, efficiency, and reliability. This is achieved by adding a reliable multicast layer on top of the IP based transmission system. IP-multicast is the choice when files have to be sent to more than one remote station, i.e to many or all remote stations.
 Applications range from file delivery/dissemination for large volume data: video- audiofiles, scientific data, medical data (x-rays, CTs, ultrasound images, ...), pro-active distribution of SW vs numerous downloads up to preloads/updates of Internet/Intranet cache servers, USENET news distribution, e-mail delivery or VoD (Video on Demand) service. DataCast provides separate software packages for sender and receiver running on common Windows or Linux platforms. The transport mechanism uses IP-Multicast, UDP and RRMP - Restricted Reliable Multicast Protocol including a FEC (Forward Error Correction) scheme for error control and correction and an ARQ (Automatic Repeat Request) scheme providing retransmission through Negative Acknowledgement (NAK) packets as well as a 'crying baby' detection (remote terminals that constantly require retransmissions), features for a (dynamic) multicast group management using a sophisticated key system for each group. Finally DataCast provides data encryption using AES algorithm. A comprehensive Transmission Statistics Tool is implemented using a report collection server providing transmission statistics (per transmission) for all receive stations.
