QMS - IP/DVB/MPEG-2 Quality Monitoring System

Complete and flexible high-end solution for analysis of IP data based on flow-records derived directly from a DVB compliant transport stream without the need of extra hardware like routers or switches. A reliable and cost-effective basis for monitoring your DVB based IP network.

The QMS is a compact solution for monitoring DVB based IP networks from gcs. The QMS is based upon a custom designed high-performance receive hardware, together with a sophisticated software system providing the IP/DVB de-capsulation, dissection and storage of IP data-flows (meta-data) as well as necessary drivers and userfriendly control and configuration tools. gcs has considerable experience in IP/DVB transmission systems development and operation.

Functions

The QMS...
  • tunes to a specific satellite frequency and demodulates a DVB-S*) compliant signal
  • receives the MPEG-2 Transport Stream multiplexes and demultiplexes it in real-time
  • monitors and statistically analyses the Transport Stream multiplex
  • investigates simultaneously all or a selected range of Packet Identifiers (PIDs)
  • extracts IP packets from Multi Protocol Encapsulated (MPE) sections and Unidirectional Link Encapsulation (ULE) SNDUs and creates data flows for further processing
  • stores meta information and related statistical data (e.g. PID, PSI/SI data, TCP/IP info, type of service) in a SQL database
*) DVB-S2 available Q1/2008

User Interface

The QMS provides an intuitive user-friendly GUI (web-frontend) for configuration, day-to-day operation and access to the database using pre-defined queries or advanced queries using SQL commands.

Applications

The QMS is well suited to support running your network using the built-in data-base queries or optionally 3rd party analyzing software handling NetFlow or IPFIX data:
  • Tracing/analysis of anomalies and attacks
    • Recording of virus/worm presence
    • DoS attacks
    • Intrusion attempts
  • Bandwidth analysis
    • Traffic patterns
    • What applications use which amount of bandwidth
  • Notifications
    • Threat alerting
    • Traffic threshold
