ASI/SPI Switchbox/Splitter

Following high demands on fail-safety, gcs developed a compact, robust and flexible SPI (LVDS) and ASI redundancy switchbox including an SPI splitter. This design features:

  • Two SPI inputs (LVDS signal on 25 pin D-Sub)
  • Two ASI inputs (BNC connector)
  • Two SPI outputs (duplicated signals from input one or two)
  • One ASI output (from input one or two)
  • Remote controllable via serial cable
  • Manual override button
  • Visual display of operation mode

Switchbox, Front view

Designed to fit in a 19" chassis with only 1U height and 10cm depth.

Remote switching between the two inputs within a few milliseconds and input station monitoring is supported by an optional software package running on a monitoring server, connected via the monitoring & control port of the switchbox. Information about the currently selected input can also be obtained via this port.

The manual override button on the front allows manually switching between the primary and the backup input in case of absence of a monitoring server.

Switchbox, Rear view

Rear view: from left to right: SPI out 1, SPI out 2, SPI in 1, SPI in 2, M&C, ASI in 1, ASI out, ASI in 2, power supply

The second SPI output (duplicated data of first SPI output, "splitter unit") can be used to externally monitor the output SPI signal and use this information for line switching decision (e.g. on the optional monitoring server). Also the splitter unit is also ideal to connect both e.g. a modulator and measurement equipment at the same time!

Delivered with cables, documentation and sample monitoring and control application for Windows and Linux.
